The Ewe Story -Take On the Essence of the Lamb of God

The Ewe Story - Occasionally, a sheepherder has an orphaned lamb that needs to be adopted by one of his ewes.

My husband shared this wonderful analogy with some friends. I liked “The Ewe Story” so much, I wanted to share it with you.

The Ewe Story

Occasionally,  a sheepherder has an orphaned lamb that needs to be adopted by one of his ewes. The ewe, however, will refuse any lamb that is not hers.  Whenever a lamb tries to nurse, the ewe will smell it and if it is not hers, she will refuse it. It seems cruel but a ewe will let a lamb starve to death if it is not hers.

When a ewe smells a lamb, she is not smelling the lamb, she is smelling herself.  When lambs are born, they smell like the ewe so she accepts them and allows them to nurse.  As they nurse, they acquire the essence of their mother and she can identify them in a field with a thousand other lambs.

If a shepherd has an orphaned lamb, he can lock a ewe in a stall with an orphaned lamb.  With the ewe’s head locked down, she can neither smell or push the orphan away.  After the lamb has nursed for a few days, it takes on the scent of the ewe.   Now, the ewe can smell herself and allows the lamb to nurse. She doesn’t care about DNA or family lines.  Once the lamb smells like her, it is her lamb.

Broken Heart and Contrite Spirit

The Ewe Story - Jesus has told us we should have a broken heart and contrite spirit.

Jesus has told us we should have a broken heart and contrite spirit.  Psalms 34:18 (3 Ne. 5:23 RE)

This is who and what our Heavenly Father is.  When we stand before Him, He will want to see something of himself.

This is why it isn’t a good idea to follow a man or a woman.  If we stand before God looking and smelling like some man or woman, then we will not be ready to reside in God’s presence.

Is it any wonder that Jesus is known as the Lamb; He is the essence of His Father.

Every man must learn to do his own thinking

A friend shared this quote that is a reminder not to follow any man or woman.

Every man must learn to do his own thinking – and his own searching – and above all, every man must find his own contact with the Almighty through the Light of Christ that is given to abide in Him.”

I believe this quote is truth.

Conclusion – The Ewe Story

I think we would all be pleased to carry a greater essence of the Lamb of God and the Father which I believe is accomplished by embracing truth which is light that I address in a previous blog if you would like to check it out.
