Higher Self or Higher Consciousness
I define the highest aspect of myself as my higher self or higher consciousness which resides with God (or whatever you refer to as your higher power). Because my higher-self resides with God, I believe this portion of my spirit knows more than the portion of my spirit housed in my physical body.
Dr. Melvin Fish
I have read various opinions about the higher self or higher consciousness, and my heart feels the warmest about the “higher-self” Dr. Melvin Fish describes.
The spirit that dwells within your body is a fragment of the higher self. That higher self is the part of you that is in the image and likeness of God.
At the time of our creation, we were at one with God and with each other. We were so connected to each other that we were aware of each other’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions, much more than mortal man can comprehend. We felt so connected to each other and to everything that we did not relate to our own uniqueness. We wanted to experience separateness so that we could more completely comprehend and appreciate our individuality. To do so, a part of our spirit separated from the remainder and it came to earth to experience mortality where we feel completely separate from everyone and everything.
This condition was never intended to be permanent. It is a school where we have come to gain experience. We start life by feeling totally separate yet dependent on others. As we mature we learn to relate to others and we become aware that we are all very much connected. As we reconnect with each other and with God, yet at the same time maintain our individual identity, we become enlightened.” Melvin C. Fish, Ph.D., pages 5-7, Become a Being of Light
