My son, Darrell, has mentioned the trials he is enduring currently were chosen by him prior to coming to this earth. He believes and possibly knows he is on the earth letting premortal choices play out to further his growth and development. I believe Darrell; however, I believe only some of his current choices are blocked by prior decisions made with premortal free agency.
Premortal Free Agency
Although you also have free agency now, my research indicates you made choices with premortal free agency prior to coming to earth that affects you now.
Premortal Free Agency Scriptures
I located scriptures that support the idea you had premortal free agency prior to coming to earth that affects you now.
Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones; And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
Abr. 6:1
Both choices now and prior to earth life affect you
The following scripture testifies that your premortal choices affect your life now, and likewise, your choices here will affect your life after death. This follows the law of karma. What you do comes back to bless or curse you. Of course, I believe repentance enables you to change your course at any time by turning and facing God to receive His love.
Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.
D&C 130:18-19
Chose to follow Christ or Satan
These verses explain that you had premortal free agency to follow Christ or Satan in the preexistence. I believe those who followed Christ live or lived upon the earth.
And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first. And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.
Abr. 6:3
Prepared and called because of faith and good works
This scriptural verse explains because of faith and good works from the creation of the world, these good works follow you into life and some are even called to a holy calling.“And this is the manner after which they were ordained—being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works; in the first place being left to choose good or evil.
Alma 9:10
If you wonder why I accept some scripture that is not included in the Bible, see the “Afterward”* at the end of this blog post.
Conclusion – Some earthly situations are locked in
So, it is very likely, while in the presence of God when you had a full view of the purpose of the physical world, some pre-earth choices you made were locked in so you would have every possible chance to achieve the knowledge and experience you desired.
Thus at times, even if you pray and pray, and have faith in a desired outcome, the plan and choices that were set in place before you came to earth, with your approval, may trump your “limited vision” desires now.
This is the work of wise and loving servants guiding you to achieve your purpose to grow in wisdom and intelligence.
*Afterward- Why I accept some scriptures that are not in the Bible
Some have asked me why I accept some scripture that is not included in the Bible when the book of Revelations states no man should add to the Bible…
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
Revelations 22:18
This scripture says a man cannot add to the Bible. That doesn’t mean God can’t. I believe there have been times when God reveals his words and will to a chosen earthly servant to bless his children with further intelligence. If you are open-minded and consider whether new revelation is true, it becomes possible to be blessed with added intelligence (true knowledge).
The following Bible scripture tells you, if you reject true knowledge, God will reject you.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.
Hosea 4:6

I love your thoughts. May I ask you a question? Do you really believe a god that’s worth his or her or its salt would talk like we do? Get angry like we do. Jealous & or controlling like we are?
I believe in the process of becoming a God, he/she experienced all things. Knowledge or intelligence is gained through experiences, and I think we are on earth to gain intelligence that expands us. So, although God has experienced jealousy, attempting to control negative emotions, etc. At the same time, while attaining Godhood, I think God learned to master negative emotions and now empathically understands what we are experiencing as we strive to master weakness and sin striving to emulate the same process God has passed through. I hope that makes sense. If not, let me know if you have questions. Thank you for your comment.
