Before I share a short prayer about contention, I would like to share a few thoughts and information. The last few times I have visited my grandchildren, I have noticed a significant increase in sibling rivalry. It has caused me to reflect on contention. This Book of Mormon scripture makes it clear that contention is of the devil not of God.
For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.
Behold, this is not my doctrine, to stir up the hearts of men with anger, one against another; but this is my doctrine, that such things should be done away. 3 Nephi 11:29-30
I studied unaltered Mormon history along with a few other polygamy stories and discovered many difficulties surrounding the practice of polygamy.
Joseph Smith was sealed to several women, I don’t remember the exact number. Interestingly enough, he was sealed to men too. What does this mean? I suggest studying about sealings to someone that has received salvation. God will help answer this question as one becomes ready.
Joseph Smith only fathered children with his wife Emma
After studying Mormon history, I realized that Joseph Smith was being sealed to women for a very different reason than to consummate a marriage and to have children. Joseph Smith had nine children with his wife, Emma, so it is obvious that he could father children. However, he had NO offspring with the other women he was sealed to. Is it possible that being “sealed” has other meanings besides being married? This is an important question to learn and ponder about.
Scripture concerning polygamy
In the Book of Mormon, it states that a man should only have one wife and to do otherwise is called whoredoms that are an abomination.
Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none.
For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts. Jacob 2:27-28
This scripture supports my decision to continue to practice monogamy.
My son, Darrell, has mentioned the trials he is enduring currently were chosen by him prior to coming to this earth. He believes and possibly knows he is on the earth letting premortal choices play out to further his growth and development. I believe Darrell; however, I believe only some of his current choices are blocked by prior decisions made with premortal free agency.
I developed a curiosity for truth when my devoted and true-hearted daughter left our family religion of Mormonism. I committed myself to find out why. My new curiosity for truth began to teach me that I knew less about truth than I thought. Mormons (aka LDS) teach they are the only true religion. Why look for truth, when you belong to the only true church and feel what you have is better and more complete than all others?
It has been a special privilege to witness a pet rabbit giving emotional support and love to our son, Darrell, who is enduring difficult challenges. As a parent, I often feel helpless as I watch my son endure isolation and loneliness. I am coming to understand when someone is struggling emotionally and mentally, there are difficult obstacles to overcome that hinder healthy communication flow. We have been blessed to accidentally discover a special pet can break through barriers people, even professionals, are not successful breaking through. Meet Pepper, our pet rabbit.
Pet Rabbit Emotional Support for Severe Depression
Our son Darrell has severe depression with some psychosis and is often plagued with suicidal thoughts. Pepper, our pet rabbit, brings comfort and love to Darrell lessening the effects of depression.
Our 8-year-old granddaughter, Hallie, begged her dad to get her a couple of bunnies. Finally, her dad consented as long as both rabbits were females. She was delighted as her dad helped her find a bunny house, food, and a water dispenser. Hallie stared at the young bunnies thinking about what to name each bunny. Selecting fun, fitting names to match their coloring and temperament, she named the bunnies Flash and Honey.
It is critical to grasp that basing our faith in God not men including, the Pope, a priest, a bishop etc. is the path to achieve salvation. When I began diligently studying and praying about my lifetime religion of Mormonism, one of the most disturbing pieces of information I discovered was that scriptures about faith unto salvation from the Doctrine & Covenants had been deleted. In 1921, a committee of men deleted the first 70 pages of the Doctrine and Covenants, the first 70 pages were also referred to as the Lectures on Faith. These pages are and have been needed to help us develop more faith in God not men.
Many copies of the Lectures on Faith state in the preface…. “they were never presented to nor accepted by the church as being otherwise than theological lectures or lessons.” This is a false statement. I include documentation and sources to support that statement is false:
“On 17 August 1835, a general assembly of the church met for the purpose of examining a book of Commandments and Covenants (the book officially became titled the Doctrine and Covenants) that had been compiled and written by the publication committee (a committee that Joseph Smith headed). This committee having finished the said book according to the instructions given them, it was deemed necessary to call the General Assembly of the Church to see if the book be approved or not by the authorities of the Church. That it may, if approved, become a law of the church, and a rule of faith and practice of the same.” – Joseph Smith Papers, Revelations and Translations Vol 2, pg 307
Sidney Rigdon, a presidency member, and committee member stood and explained to the assembly to vote for or against the said book. Everyone present was given the opportunity to vote first by quorums (designated smaller groups). After all the quorums had accepted the said book (I repeat, the first 70 pages were the Lectures on Faith), the General Assembly voted, including everyone that was present. They all sustained the book as Doctrine of the Church.
There are numerous negative reviews against the NIV Bible (New International Version Bible). I do not agree. I really enjoy this version of the Bible. A dear friend of my son introduced him to be the best NIV study bible.
Bible language is difficult for you – Switch to the best NIV study Bible
The majority of Bible scholars and avid Bible readers do not comprehend those who don’t readily understand Bible language. Many of the reviews put down people who have difficulty understanding Bible language. One critic said, “Why don’t we make you smarter so you can read the Bible rather than dumb the Bible down?” This is offensive to me. I know there are like-minded people who also struggle to understand Bible language who most likely do not appreciate being spoken about in this manner. In my opinion, if Bible language is difficult for one to understand, then why not switch to the best NIV study Bible?
NIV study Bible enables more people to read God’s word
Some evil entities often referred to as aliens do not respond to the power of the creator of the earth where we reside. It is my understanding since aliens or foreigners belong to a different creation or a different realm, they respond to the power of Heavenly Father who has jurisdiction over many creations. This means a prayer for protection against evil from a different creation needs to be approached a little differently.
Prayer for protection against evil in the name of the Father
I define the highest aspect of myself as my higher self or higher consciousness which resides with God (or whatever you refer to as your higher power). Because my higher-self resides with God, I believe this portion of my spirit knows more than the portion of my spirit housed in my physical body.
Dr. Melvin Fish
I have read various opinions about the higher self or higher consciousness, and my heart feels the warmest about the “higher-self” Dr. Melvin Fish describes.
The spirit that dwells within your body is a fragment of the higher self. That higher self is the part of you that is in the image and likeness of God.
At the time of our creation, we were at one with God and with each other. We were so connected to each other that we were aware of each other’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions, much more than mortal man can comprehend. We felt so connected to each other and to everything that we did not relate to our own uniqueness. We wanted to experience separateness so that we could more completely comprehend and appreciate our individuality. To do so, a part of our spirit separated from the remainder and it came to earth to experience mortality where we feel completely separate from everyone and everything.
This condition was never intended to be permanent. It is a school where we have come to gain experience. We start life by feeling totally separate yet dependent on others. As we mature we learn to relate to others and we become aware that we are all very much connected. As we reconnect with each other and with God, yet at the same time maintain our individual identity, we become enlightened.” Melvin C. Fish, Ph.D., pages 5-7, Become a Being of Light
