Gifts of the Spirit for Everyone Who Seek

At times he wonders if he has the right to ask for these gifts because of all his inadequacies, but then he reminds himself the gifts of the spirit are for everyone.

My husband has the kindest heart.  When he sees someone suffering from handicaps or sickness, he wishes so much he could immediately heal them.  Then he silently prays he will be blessed with the gift of healing and the gift of discernment.  At times he wonders if he has the right to ask for these gifts because of all his inadequacies, but then he reminds himself the gifts of the spirit are for everyone.

Gifts of the spirit for everyone

The following scripture is excellent proof that each of us is eligible to receive God’s blessings and that the gifts of the spirit are for everyone.

He inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God.

2 Ne. 26:33

Connecting to the true Vine

It is so easy to feel like no matter how hard we try, we still aren’t good enough.  This is actually true……….we will never be able to bear fruit (be good enough) without abiding in the vine (Jesus Christ) who enables us to bring forth fruit (which would include the gifts of the spirit).

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

John 15:4-5

The above scripture verses are great to reinforce that bearing fruit is an invitation to everyone, but only those who abide in (or connect to) Christ and carry His spirit can bear fruit which include the gifts of the spirit.

Living as Christians

The decline of the gifts of the spirit following Constantine was identified by Protestant reformer John Wesley.  He recognized Christians were no longer living as Christians, they had waxed cold,  no longer carrying the Spirit of Christ.  Thus, they were no longer blessed with the gifts of the spirit.

Soft-hearted and love our neighbors

To me, “waxed cold” means a loss of love for one another and God or in other words they were hard-hearted people who no longer carried the Spirit of Christ.   Therefore, to be eligible for the gifts of the spirit, we need to be the opposite, soft-hearted and love our neighbors.

Promise to God

A bit ago, my husband and I promised God we would strive more diligently to love everyone.  It is a challenge to love those who are not kind but if we are going to receive God’s greatest blessings like the gifts of the spirit, we have to continue struggling to love everyone including those who are difficult to love.

Conclusion – Gifts of the spirit for everyone scripture

When reading the below Bible scriptures about the gifts of the spirit, they create a tone of motivation to keep working toward receiving increased blessings by seeking and asking for God’s help to inherit these wonderful gifts.

We must not forget, the gifts of the spirit are eligible for everyone!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
