When you have a dream, vision or witness something amazing and unordinary, do you stop to determine the source of the manifestation? Let’s explore a couple of ways to determine the source of a manifestation. Let’s start by asking yourself, “Did I attain knowledge or was it a supernatural experience?”
Are you aware manifestations can come from dark sources as well as from God? In order to entice people, dark sources pose as light. This is the reason it is tricky to tell which source a manifestation is coming from.
The Egyptians were not able to tell the difference between the miracles of Moses and those of the magicians causing them to be confused. If Moses had not performed real miracles using the power of God, all the Egyptians would have certainly thought the magicians performed through the power of God.
Supernatural Experiences – No knowledge received
Did your manifestation include someone or some beings engaged in the following…
- having strange fits
- experiencing tremblings and faintings
- falling down
- face or/and body twitchings
- excessive shaking
- going into trances
- shouting utterances with an unnatural shrill voice
- employing distorted countenances
- magic tricks
If your manifestations included any of the above or other sensational behavior without receiving any knowledge, let’s categorize this type of manifestation under supernatural experiences.
Attain Knowledge – Example
Christ rebuked Peter because he asked Christ not to go to Jerusalem which was against the Father’s will. The Lord used the opportunity to teach Peter the importance of keeping Heavenly Father’s commandments by calling Peter “Satan” which means opposer or accuser…
From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord. This shall not be done unto you. But he turned and said unto Peter, Get behind me, Satan. You are an offense unto me, for you savor not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.Matthew 9:2
God’s ways are not man’s ways. The key to avoid being misled is to accept God’s will in all things which can be difficult. Notice Christ helped Peter attain knowledge without sensationalism. Christ’s goal isn’t to sensationalize or entertain. Christ’s goal is to teach and help you attain knowledge.
Supernatural Experiences – Sensationalize or Entertain
On the other hand, supernatural experiences are to sensationalize and entertain without sharing any knowledge. This type of manifestation is to entice you and comes from dark sources.
Most of us, if not all, have been misled by a false spirit which doesn’t necessarily mean you are evil. Often, it only means you have been misled.
False spirits infect every religious tradition on earth including Christianity. If you accept the idea that false spirits promote themselves through the vehicle of lies, any incorrect or incomplete idea, or people’s ignorance, this greatly enlarges the group size of “false spirits”.
False spirits include those with a body (incarnate) as well as those who are without a body (discarnate). Each time false information, including partial truths, is taught and a student accepts it, false spirits have been successful in their work to confuse and lead astray.
For nothing is a greater injury to the children of men than to be under the influence of a false spirit when they think they have the spirit of God.T&C 147:5
Clouds covering truth
Each time you accept a truth, you may be experiencing clouds that have dissipated away aiding you to recognize the truth. This certainly doesn’t make you better than those who continue to be trapped behind clouds masking the truth.
Now you have the added opportunity to patiently share the truth you now recognize with others you care about.
Until we attain an understanding of all things, we continue to be somewhat misled. Therefore, it is important to continue to curiously search for truth.
Attain Knowledge – Rate you are equipped to assimilate
Although God is sensational and can perform sensational miracles, His work is most often quiet. God patiently teaches line upon line, precept upon precept allowing you to attain knowledge at whatever rate you are equipped to assimilate it.
2nd question to help identify manifestation source
The second question to ask yourself when identifying the source of a manifestation is, “Did the manifestation appeal to my ego or did I receive a message of service or sacrifice?” God’s messages never appeal to your vanity and pride, they are always messages that harmonize with the scriptures. If you received a message that you would gain power and/or obtain wealth for your purposes, this type of message is only delivered by dark sources.
Conclusion – Attain Knowledge or Supernatural Experience
Until you receive the full gift of discerning spirits, you can become more proficient in determining the source of manifestations by asking yourself…
- Firstly, “Did I attain knowledge that is in harmony with what is taught in the scriptures or did I have a supernatural experience without receiving any knowledge?”
- Secondly, “Did the manifestation indulge my ego or did I receive a message of service or sacrifice?”
God’s goal is never to indulge your pride. God’s goal is for you to gain knowledge sometimes referred to in the scriptures as intelligence.
A man is saved no faster than he gets knowledge, for if he does not get knowledge, he will be brought into captivity by some evil power in the other word, as evil spirits will have more knowledge, and consequently more power.(TPJS, p. 217.)
